Post-Covid World; Reshoring production & offshoring services

Here are some trends emerging from the new normal that you can leverage to boost your company’s productivity and ability to access talent globally for your next software development project

COVID19 outbreak is significantly influencing global trends driving or according to some, accelerating a pivotal shift in the way we live and work. Though interestingly enough, these disruptions are not uniform across the board. For example, manufacturing sector is seriously considering re-shoring of production facilities for a diverse and more resilient supply chain in the post pandemic world.

On the other hand, with world moving towards tech led operating models, the tech industry has emerged from this pandemic in a better shape than most. Companies like Shopify has seen unprecedented growth during this crisis, underpinning the fact that tech is going to lead the recovery and play an important part in work and everyday life. This trend is going to disrupt supply-demand side of technology workforce and with reduced traveling and strict immigration laws in the US, Silicon Valley is naturally looking to offshore software development services in order to tap into the talent that is not readily available in the US. In addition to drivers like low cost, or availability of H1B visas, there is an interesting discovery that is leading this massive transformational trend – Remote Working

With advancement in remote collaboration tools, cloud-based storage, and CRM systems etc., remote working was becoming popular even in pre-COVID19 world. At the same time, there were doubts around how remote working is going to impact level of efficiency and well-being of workers but during the pandemic, it became clearer that remote working has a somewhat positive impact on efficiency and well-being of individuals. A recent study conducted by Cushman & Wakefield used feedback from over 50,000 respondents and 2.5 million data points to highlight how employees can be productive anywhere not just at the office. Large majority of employees feel trusted and are welcoming flexibility while experiencing collaboration at an all-time high.

Historically, if one could list down challenges a company would consider while deciding on offshoring software services, efficiency, trust and collaboration would make it as top 3. New workplace habits are going to change this perception and companies are going to adopt low cost, virtual/flexible models making offshoring of software services an integral design element of future strategy.
